Rachel Contracting was selected to complete approximately 8.1 acres of final cover at the Rolling Hills Landfill. The project posed many challenges. The final cover project needed to be performed without impacting the active landfill’s operation, and tasks such as installing culverts and completing the liner tie in required excavating into the access road. These tasks needed to be carefully coordinated & quickly executed in order to not interrupt incoming waste or the 33,000+ CY of material imported for the project. Heavy rains during the project posed another challenge. During this poor weather, it took significant effort & coordination to control surface water & maintain the buffer layer so that the liner crew could complete their scope unimpeded. Despite these challenges, our crew was able to complete the project on time.
