Rachel Contracting was hired by Boston Scientific to reconstruct their very busy 2,700 car parking lot at their facility in Maple Grove, MN. This came with a caveat that we would never need to disrupt more than 500 parking spots at one time. The challenge was the facility operates 24 hours a day/7 days a week with shift changes adding additional complications. During the work, Boston decided they need to add additional building space, in the parking areas we were reconstructing. Boston hired Mortenson for their new building, whom were very accommodating to all the work on site. This new addition lead to our allotted 500 parking spaces becoming less than 300. During COVID, Boston Scientific has operated similar to most companies and scaled back their in-office work force. Thus this construction season should have been fine for parking with so many still working from home. However, Boston has actually expanded, added employees, and by September will need an additional 700 parking spots. Great client, but….lots of existing utility conflicts- Centurylink, Comcast, Xcel, poor soils, material shortages, trucking shortages, and uncooperative weather.
