Rachel was awarded the contract to complete the remaining site utilities for the UREA expansion project. It consisted of finishing the underground firewater system, storm water system and excavation/backfill/support for the electrical ductbanks and cooling water piping installation. There were many challenges including an expedited schedule leading into the winter and required continual coordination amongst contractors to allow for multiple tasks to take place within the same work areas. The underground utilities required excavations with depths up to 16 ft and the need for multiple shoring options. The complex existing underground utility layout also presented challenges and required many hours of hydrovac excavation and potholing to assure safe excavation and installation of new utilities.
