Rachel Contracting was awarded the demolition and clean up of the former Mid-America Steel facility in Fargo, ND which included the demolition and removal of 20 buildings. There were a few challenges on the project which included demolishing a fire damaged section of the building which made access difficult. The fire damaged section was treated as hazardous waste. The debris generated was kept wet and hauled to the landfill as asbestos waste. Two of the buildings were within 15 feet of an active rail. We had to coordinate the work with BNSF and hire a railroad flagman during the demolition of the two buildings. The work also included importing and placement of clay backfill for the basement voids and site restoration.
